Trading Holidays 2026 FAQs

1. What happens when a share market holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday?
The stock exchanges normally do not conduct equity trading on Saturdays and Sundays.

Therefore, if a festival falls on a weekend, it does not create another weekday market closure.

2. What is Muhurat Trading?
Muhurat Trading is a special stock-market trading session associated with Diwali.

Although November 08, 2026, is a Sunday, when the normal market would be closed, NSE and BSE will conduct a special trading session for Muhurat Trading.

3. Can stocks be bought or sold on NSE holidays 2026?
On a scheduled holiday, regular trading on both NSE and BSE remains closed. Thus, equity orders cannot be executed through the normal market session. Orders may be placed in advance through a broker, but execution can take place only when the market reopens, subject to the order type and validity.
4. What happens to a limit order if the next trading day is a market holiday?
If a limit order remains valid beyond a scheduled market holiday, it generally stays “pending” and can be executed when the market reopens, subject to the order’s validity period and broker-specific rules.
