Trade246 vs PrimeXBT: Crypto Trading App India for Leveraged CFDs vs Regulated Multi-Asset

Summary Box

Both Trade246 and PrimeXBT are online trading platforms offering access to multiple market segments. However, the primary difference lies in “ownership” versus “derivative exposure”.
The CFD products offered by PrimeXBT allow traders to speculate on price movements without taking ownership of the underlying asset. In comparison, Trade246 allows traders to even “buy” and “hold” certain underlying assets (such as NSE equities and US stocks), rather than gaining exposure solely through a CFD contract.
Additionally, it is worth mentioning that, in an RBI reply issued in response to an RTI, dated January 13, 2023, CFD trading in foreign exchange is NOT permitted in India.

The same assets can be traded in very different ways! Both Trade246 and PrimeXBT primarily differ in how market exposure is created. Trade246 offers Indian-market coverage combined with international markets. We offer derivative-based products along with ownership access to some underlying assets (such as NSE equity shares or US stocks).

In comparison, PrimeXBT only provides leveraged exposure through CFDs and other derivatives. In such a setup, a trader speculates on price movements without owning the underlying asset.

What is Trade246?

Trade246 is a “multi-asset” trading platform, particularly built for Indian traders. We bring Indian and international markets into a “single account” and offer access to seven different market segments:

  1. NSE equity trading
  2. US stocks (5,000+ stocks offered)
  3. Cryptocurrencies (50+ digital assets are available)
  4. Commodities
  5. Forex (both minor and major currency pairs are covered)
  6. Domestic and Global Market Indices
  7. NFO (Nifty Futures & Options)

Trade246 also offers “bank-grade” security via 256-bit encryption + 2FA, and supports ultra-low-latency order execution. To familiarise yourself with the market as well as our platform, you can also register for a free demo account.

What is PrimeXBT?

PrimeXBT is a multi-asset “leveraged trading” platform covering various segments, such as:

As of September 14, 2026, its latest PXTrader 2.0 platform lists 350+ instruments, which comprise 99 forex pairs, 22 metals, 12 commodities, 19 indices, 16 shares, 34 crypto CFDs, and 162 crypto futures. (Source: PrimeXBT

However, it is worth mentioning that PrimeXBT does not provide ownership across all these products/ underlying assets. On both the PrimeXBT app and the web platform, you can trade in forex, stock indices, commodities, or shares through CFDs (Contract for Differences). For those unaware, in CFD trading, you speculate on changes in the asset’s price rather than buying the underlying:

Similarly, crypto futures allow traders to speculate on cryptocurrency prices through derivative contracts without owning the underlying cryptocurrency. Want to first practice? Traders may access a PrimeXBT demo before risking real money.

CFD Trading for Foreign Exchange is Illegal (as of September 14, 2026)

As per an RBI reply, dated January 13, 2023, given in response to an RTI, Binary trading and Contract for Difference (CFD) in foreign exchange are NOT permitted in India. Consequently, Indian residents cannot legally trade forex CFDs, where they speculate on the price movement of a currency pair without actually buying or selling the underlying currencies.

Additionally, RBI guidelines also require forex derivative transactions to be undertaken only through “authorised persons” and as per the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

Therefore, an overseas platform (such as PrimeXBT) offering “leveraged forex CFDs” does not make such trading permissible for an Indian resident. Thus, Indian residents may deposit funds after analysing the various Primexbt reviews and applicable regulations.

2. Is there a “blanket ban” on all CFDs in India?

As per the RBI, “forex CFD trading” is not permitted in India. However, there is no blanket ban covering every type of CFD. Ideally, investors should review the applicable regulatory requirements and restrictions before investing in any CFD product.
