What is a Rollover in Forex?

Learn more about important trading and financial terms here. Need more help? Our team is ready.

Rollover is the process of carrying an open forex position from one trading day to the next.

When a position remains open after the broker’s daily rollover time, the broker applies a “rollover adjustment”. Such an adjustment may result in a “credit” or a “charge”, which depends on factors such as:

  • The currencies involved
  • Trade direction, and
  • Broker’s financing rates.

Realise that rollover is closely related to the “forex swap”. The swap (or the overnight charges in forex trading) is the actual financing adjustment applied to the account, while rollover refers to the process of carrying the position into the next trading day.
