What is Natural Gas Trading on MCX?

Learn more about important trading and financial terms here. Need more help? Our team is ready.

Natural gas trading on MCX refers to trading natural gas derivative contracts listed on the Multi-Commodity Exchange of India (MCX). Traders can take positions based on expected changes in natural gas prices without buying physical natural gas.

Realise that prices of natural gas are influenced by various factors, such as:

  • Global supply and demand
  • Weather conditions
  • Inventory levels
  • Production, and
  • International energy markets

Additionally, MCX natural gas contracts have a specified lot size, expiry date, and margin requirement. Since these are leveraged derivative contracts, price movements can also produce gains or losses that are large relative to the margin deposited.
