Learn more about important trading and financial terms here. Need more help? Our team is ready.

Lot size in forex refers to the amount of currency represented by a forex trade. As per general industry understanding, some common lot sizes in forex are:

Lot TypeUnits of Base Currency
Standard lot100,000
Mini lot10,000
Micro lot1,000
Nano lot100

When leverage is available, a trader does not always need to provide the full value of the position from their own funds. The amount required depends on the broker’s margin rules and the leverage applied.

Additionally, several traders use a “forex lot size calculator” to determine the ideal position size for a trade. In the calculator, you can enter your:

  • Account balance
  • The percentage of capital you want to risk per trade, and
  • Your stop-loss (in pips).

Next, the forex lot size calculator instantly calculates the correct lot size (Standard, Mini, or Micro) to trade.
