What is the MCX Commodity Lot Size?

Learn more about important trading and financial terms here. Need more help? Our team is ready.

MCX commodity lot size is the “standard quantity” of a commodity represented by one futures or options contract on the Multi-Commodity Exchange of India (MCX). The lot size differs from one commodity contract to another.

For example, Gold lot size on MCX India is available in four different variants:

  • 1 kg (Gold)
  • 100 g (Gold Mini)
  • 8 g (Gold Guinea), and
  • 1 g (Gold Petal)

These standardized lots are fixed by MCX and differ only in quantity, tick value, and margin requirements. These lot sizes can further be used to calculate the contract value as follows:

  • Contract value = Market price × Lot size

In this way, lot size can be used to determine the monetary exposure associated with one contract. Additionally, they also influence the margin requirement and the profit or loss resulting from a given price movement.
