KYC (Know Your Customer) is the process through which a financial institution verifies a customer’s identity and other required details before providing financial services. As per SEBI guidelines, KYC is required when opening and maintaining investment accounts through registered intermediaries. 

While engaging in a KYC verification session, traders have to generally provide details, such as their Aadhar (acts as address + identity proof), PAN details, residential address, and any financial information required.

As mentioned before, KYC is the identity and verification process that an investor must complete before opening and using a trading account with a stockbroker. Note that, as per SEBI guidelines, undergoing KYC is mandatory for opening and operating a trading account in India.
