What is T+1 Settlement in India?

Learn more about important trading and financial terms here. Need more help? Our team is ready.

“T+1” settlement indicates that a securities transaction is settled one business day after the trade date. Here, “T” represents the day on which the trade is executed, while “+1” represents the next business day. For example,

  • Suppose an eligible equity transaction is executed on Monday.
  • Now, the settlement generally takes place on Tuesday, subject to applicable market holidays and settlement rules.

What is the T+1 Settlement Meaning on NSE and BSE?

The T+1 settlement shows that eligible securities transactions are “settled” one working day after the trade date. For those unaware, “settlement” involves the transfer of securities to the buyer and funds to the seller through the prescribed clearing and settlement mechanism.

Note: T+1 should not be confused with the time at which an order is executed. Trade execution occurs on “T”, while settlement occurs on the subsequent business day.
