NIFTY 50 is a stock market index of the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE). It tracks the performance of the 50 largest companies (in terms of full market capitalisation) selected from the universe of Nifty 500.

The index is based on “free-float” market capitalisation, which means companies with a larger free-float market value have a greater influence on the index. NIFTY 50 is widely used as a reference for the performance of large-cap Indian equities and as an “underlying” for financial products such as index funds, ETFs, and derivatives.
