A Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) is a method of investing in a mutual fund scheme. In the SIP route, a pre-determined amount is invested at regular intervals, such as monthly or quarterly. The investor purchases mutual fund units based on the scheme’s applicable Net Asset Value (NAV) on the transaction date. For example,
| SIP | Lump Sum |
| Investment is made at regular intervals | Investment is made as a “single amount”. |
| Amount is spread across multiple investment dates | The entire amount is invested once on a single date. |
| The number of units purchased varies with the NAV | The number of units depends on the NAV at investment |
| May potentially suit investors with regular investible income | Requires a larger amount to be available at once |
| Market exposure occurs across different dates | Complete market exposure begins from Day 1 with the initial investment |
Note: SIP does not guarantee a particular return. The value of a mutual fund investment can fluctuate based on the performance of its underlying securities and prevailing market conditions.
